Il secondo gruppo dei Mondiali in Russia si apre con la sfida tra Marocco ed Iran, una gara che ha visto tanti esordienti nella competizione iridata. Gara clamorosamente vinta dall’Iran mentre è terminata in parità con ben sei gol la sfida tra Portogallo e Spagna.
La seconda giornata si apre con la vittoria di misura del Portogallo ai danni del Marocco nel segno del solito Cristiano Ronaldo. I lusitani si portano momentaneamente in testa mentre la squadra di Renard, ferma a 0 punti, dice addio al sogno ottavi.
